Mezuzah

the presence of the dream
inside
Irrevocable, irreconcilable,
irretrievable, irrepressible, a
welt of blankness at the center of
memory.
The revenging furious trace of
wind & limbs.

And there was a house.
And there was a woman’s face,
meaning ‘foreign’, which meant
‘safe’ – which meant a kind
of work.

And there was a hill, a kind
of hill, which meant wet, mud,
heartache, need, contact. which
meant loss, and a horizon emptying
happiness as if with a withdrawing
syringe.

The presence of the dream
inside, absence breathing and
craving, absence pneumatic and
gnawing, absence rising and
falling, absence framed by
absence, creating a door.
